aaah, timewasting...
Do not click unless you have three hours or more to waste watching cute and strangely, twistedly-funny animations of evil kittens, a half-demon little goth girl, and/or something about fast food that I haven't got to yet. Waste your time!

I am spotting user-icons from LJ all over the place now. I recently spotted that someone on [info]composers is using the cover of a Radiohead album (but in animated form), and somebody from [info]edinburgers has a still from "Little Goth Girl's School Day" as a usericon.

Today's comedy caption from BBC News: "Man wins tie sex ruling". Repealing Section 28 is all very well, but officially legalising bondage may be going a bit far.

In fact, they're on excellent form today - Let slip the sea lions of war! I'm not sure how much of this is genuine. I don't believe the bit about the chickens.

Today I have mainly been speaking to people in Paris, and putting quotes together for an Indian dancer. Tonight I will go and do a psychology experiment for a friend, then go to a choir rehearsal (Brahms' Requiem), then to a ceilidh - yay! I will probably get medium drunk.

I need to put on some weight, I am far too thin (6ft tall, 10 and a half stone.) Can anyone suggest ways to put on weight on a vegetarian diet, while staying reasonably healthy? The chocolate is not having as much effect as I thought. I'd like to be about 11 stone and generally a bit more cuddly. At the moment I am bony and poorly insulated.

Wow. The weather outside just changed from bright sunlight to pouring rain in about five seconds. The lighting change was like a solar eclipse. Quite incredible.

Beer has lots of calories... :o)

I lost about a stone in weight due to having kids and it took me about three years to put it back on. Apparently two of the things I was doing wrong were to always eat breakfast and to snack between meals - apparently if you never really get hungry then your metabolism doesn't panic and start laying down fat reserves to get you through the hungry times...

Peanut butter sandwiches, cheese on toast, bananas, biscuits, ice-cream, etc are all high calorie and vegetarian.

Weight can be put on by taking up cycling or rowing or something similar.  I am not kidding.  My legs got measurably bigger after I got a bike -- and it's not like I wasn't walking everywhere before anyway.

Bizarrely - or maybe not - I always put on more weight the more fresh fruit and veg I eat. If I eat cake or whatever in order to stop being such a skinny wretch, it either makes no difference I just end up losing it again very quickly - and making myself unhealthy in the process.

So, I would say, lots of fruit and vegetables (avocados and bananas are very healthy but also contain some fat...), but also plenty of starchy things, nuts, cheese etc. Avoid caffeine, also. And, obviously, you don't need to make any effort to *not* eat lovely desserts and drink nice beer and things. :)

Whether that will work for you, I don't know - as it's partly the ME that keeps me so thin, obviously anything that improves me general state of health will help me put on weight. But - with all respect to [info]nickys - I really wouldn't recommend you to increase your fatty intake or skip breakfast, not that it wouldn't work for many, but I can't see it as a good idea when you've been having depression. Put your health first, and then worry about putting on the weight. High levels of anxiety themselves may be doing to your body a little of what ME is doing to mine, in any case, so eating healthily (and thus reducing stress to your body) might well work for you too... Yoga and relaxation exercises too may be good. :)

And then you do the one thing I *can't* currently do to be a little less thin: lots of exercise. I'm definitely with [info]andrewwyld on that one.

Ooh, good luck with it! *sympathetic hugs for the being-poorly-insulated thing... man, I know the feeling...*

lots of love,

Elly

Avocados and bananas sound good. It's not saturated fat and therefore not too evil.

I have just discovered that peanut butter and golden syrup sandwiches are surprisingly nice. These may help.

I can't manage the day if I skip breakfast, so that won't work. I go seriously shaky if I don't eat at regular intervals (this seems to be genetic, my mum has it as well) and therefore snacks between meals are also a necessity.

I shall start having desserts more often. It's time I learnt to do puddings, at the moment all I really cook is main meals.
